Senior Accountant – Contributed Revenue to join its finance team. This position plays a critical role in ensuring the accuracy, integrity, and compliance of contributed revenue, grant funding, endowment accounting, and financial reporting activities.
The ideal candidate will bring strong accounting expertise, grant billing experience, and a passion for supporting organizations that serve the public good. This role offers the opportunity to partner with program leaders, finance professionals, and external stakeholders while contributing to strategic financial operations and reporting.
Job Description The Senior Accountant – Contributed Revenue is responsible for overseeing complex accounting functions related to contributed revenue, grants, endowments, and investment accounts. This position ensures accurate financial reporting, regulatory compliance, and effective administration of donor and fundraising accounting systems.
Key Responsibilities - Maintain and reconcile contributed revenue transactions, ensuring accuracy and completeness of financial records.
- Administer and support the Raiser’s Edge fundraising system, including transaction coding, reconciliation, and general ledger integration.
- Prepare, manage, and distribute monthly grant billings while ensuring proper recording and reporting of grant revenue.
- Navigate government and other funding agency billing platforms to support reimbursement and reporting requirements.
- Monitor grant compliance, donor restrictions, and funding requirements.
- Reconcile balance sheet accounts and prepare supporting schedules for audits and financial reviews.
- Track and reconcile endowment funds, temporarily restricted funds, annuities, and investment-related accounts.
- Assist with annual financial audits, grant-related audits, desk reviews, and site monitoring activities.
- Support the preparation of IRS Form 990 and other organization-wide financial reporting requirements.
- Provide accounting guidance and financial support to programs, departments, and operational leaders.
- Partner with internal stakeholders to improve financial processes, strengthen controls, and enhance reporting accuracy.
- Prepare and analyze financial reports to support organizational decision-making and transparency.
- Collaborate with finance leadership on special projects and other assigned accounting initiatives.
Qualifications Required - Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; equivalent professional experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
- Minimum of 4 years of progressive accounting experience.
- Non-profit accounting experience is required
- Strong knowledge of accounting principles, financial reporting, reconciliations, and general ledger processes.
- Experience with grant billing, grant accounting, and funding compliance requirements.
- Ability to prepare and analyze financial reports with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
- Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
- Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel.
- Ability to work at a computer for extended periods and travel locally as needed for meetings, training, or events.
Preferred - Experience working with government-funded programs, grants, or public-sector agencies.
- Experience with Raiser’s Edge fundraising software.
- Experience with Microsoft Dynamics GP (Great Plains) ERP system.
- Experience improving financial processes, controls, and operational efficiencies.
- Project management experience.
- CPA designation or progress toward certification.
- Bilingual or multilingual communication skills.
